Pain between the shoulder blades or around the ribs is one of the most common reasons people see a chiropractor. It’s often linked to desk work, driving, lifting, a sudden twist or even a strong cough or sneeze, and it can make breathing deeply, turning or sleeping uncomfortable.
No referral needed. Online booking 24/7, or call the front desk and we will find you a time.
Chest pain with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea or pain spreading into the arm or jaw needs emergency care. Call 911. Also see a doctor for mid-back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, a history of cancer, or pain after a significant fall or accident.
A common cause is irritation of a joint where the rib meets the spine, often after a twist, lift or bout of coughing. It usually responds quickly to treatment. Sharp breathing pain with fever or shortness of breath should be checked by a doctor.
Ribs don’t usually pop out of place, but the joints can become irritated and stiff. Adjustment and mobilization of those joints, plus exercises, usually relieve it within a few visits.
Change position often, set your screen at eye level, and add a few upper-back mobility and strengthening exercises to your day. Your chiropractor will show you the ones that suit you.
