If you've been injured at work, chiropractic care is one of the most effective paths back to full function — and WorkSafeBC covers the cost. How WorkSafeBC Billing Works at Our Clinic
Please note: our clinic does not bill WorkSafeBC directly. Here's how to manage your claim with us:
Self-Submission (Most Common)
You pay for your treatment at the time of your appointment, and we provide you with a detailed receipt. You then submit that receipt directly to WorkSafeBC for reimbursement. WorkSafeBC processes these claims and reimburses you directly, typically within a few weeks.
-
Bring your WorkSafeBC claim number to your first appointment
-
We'll provide itemized receipts for each visit — keep these for your WSBC submission
-
WSBC reimburses at set rates — contact WorkSafeBC or visit their website for current chiropractic rates
Extended Health Benefits
-
If you are NOT submitting a WorkSafeBC claim, you can use extended health benefits (Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, etc.) and we can often bill those directly
-
Important: extended health and WSBC cannot be combined for the same injury — it must be one or the other
Mandatory Reporting
By law, all health professionals in BC are required to report a workplace injury to WorkSafeBC. Please inform your chiropractor at the start of your first visit if your injury occurred at work — even if you're unsure whether you'll file a formal claim. This protects both your rights and ensures proper documentation of your injury.
Common Workplace Injuries We Treat
Back and Spine Injuries
The most common workplace injury presentation. Lower back pain from lifting, carrying, prolonged sitting, and repetitive bending accounts for a significant proportion of WorkSafeBC claims in BC. We treat acute sprains and strains, disc injuries, and the chronic back pain that develops when an acute injury isn't properly managed.
Neck and Shoulder Injuries
Sustained awkward postures, overhead work, heavy lifting, and computer-based work all contribute to cervical and shoulder injuries. Neck pain and shoulder conditions including rotator cuff strain and impingement are common in trades, healthcare, and office workers alike.
Repetitive Strain and Overuse Injuries
Repetitive motion injuries — carpal tunnel, tennis or golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy — develop over time and are common in manufacturing, trades, and data entry roles. Chiropractic assessment identifies the full biomechanical picture driving the overuse pattern, not just the site of pain.
Slips, Trips, and Falls
Falls at work frequently injure the spine, wrist, shoulder, and ankle. Whether it's a slip on a wet floor or a fall from a ladder, these injuries need proper diagnosis before treatment — the mechanism of injury matters for determining what tissue is involved and how to treat it safely.
Soft Tissue Sprains and Strains
Muscle strains and ligament sprains from sudden loading — picking up a heavy object incorrectly, catching something unexpectedly, or a sudden movement — are among the most common acute presentations. Early treatment accelerates healing and prevents the muscle guarding and movement avoidance that leads to chronic pain.
Why Chiropractic Gets Workers Back Faster
The evidence base for chiropractic care in workplace injury management is strong. Key findings relevant to WorkSafeBC patients:
-
Earlier return to modified and full duties compared to passive rest-based management
-
Lower rates of transitioning from acute to chronic pain — the most costly outcome in workplace injury claims
-
Reduced reliance on pain medication during recovery
-
Multi-disciplinary care (combining chiropractic with massage and athletic therapy) produces better outcomes for complex injuries than single-discipline treatment
Our clinic's integrated model — chiropractors, registered massage therapists, and athletic therapist all under one roof — is particularly well-suited to workplace injury recovery, where multiple tissue types are often involved and return-to-work timelines matter.

Frequently Asked Questions — WorkSafeBC Chiropractic
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a chiropractor for a workplace injury?
No. Chiropractors in BC are primary care providers — you can come directly without a GP referral. This is an advantage when you've been injured and want to be assessed and begin treatment quickly rather than waiting for a family doctor appointment.
What if I'm not sure whether to file a WorkSafeBC claim or use my extended health?
It depends on your situation. If your injury is clearly work-related and significant, a WSBC claim is usually the right move — it protects your long-term rights if the injury has lasting effects, and WSBC benefits are separate from your extended health (which you preserve for other health needs). If the injury is minor and you'd prefer not to involve WSBC, extended health can cover chiropractic. We can discuss the options at your first visit — but we're not able to give formal legal or claims advice.
How quickly can I get in for a WorkSafeBC injury?
We prioritise new workplace injury patients and typically have same-week availability. Call 250-223-0200 and let us know you have a WorkSafeBC injury — we'll get you in as soon as possible. Early treatment is important for both your recovery and your claim documentation.
How many treatments will WorkSafeBC reimburse?
WorkSafeBC reimburses chiropractic at set rates and for a set number of visits, subject to claim approval and clinical progress reporting. Exact numbers depend on your injury and claim. Contact WorkSafeBC directly or visit their website for current coverage details — reimbursement rates and visit limits are updated periodically.
